It Is Finished!
A lot of times, salvation is portrayed as something that you have to work for, or accept the work of Jesus Christ to get it. Well, as a Primitive Baptist I believe both are wrong and i'm gonna tell you why. First of all, i'm gonna tell you what I do believe. I believe in the finished work of Jesus Christ, and He saved us by His grace and His grace ALONE. It states in Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." We can see in this passage of scripture that we have nothing to do with our own salvation and I thank God for that. If you go to Romans 6:23 it says "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." This brings to mind a few different thoughts. First of all, it reminds us that we are all sinners and have all fallen short of the Glory of God. Jesus Christ was the only man that has walked this earth that was sinless. The second part states that it is through Jesus Christ, another example of how we have nothing to do with our heavenly salvation, because Jesus Christ has done all the work. This might seem like a foreign idea to some people but if you think about it, salvation by grace is the only way to make the Gospel make sense. Ephesians 2:1 states "And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and in sins;" If we were dead, we couldn't do anything to receive salvation, and it had to be the work and sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our salvation to work. Now back to the title of this post, if you read John 19:30 it states "When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, it is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost." As you can see, Jesus Christ himself said "it is finished" right before he gave up the ghost. I take this to mean that what he came to earth to do, was finished. It was complete! The ransom had been paid with the precious blood of Jesus Christ, and we do not have to worry about our heavenly salvation because it is finished! You can rest easy in the finished work of Jesus Christ! I feel like the Primitive Baptist church is a place of refuge for so many because they can come and hear salvation by Grace and "It is Finished" in a time where sin seems to be prevalent, but I do know one thing, there is nothing that is too big for God and he could get rid of sin in an instant, for he is the very creator of the universe.
